Care instructions

Looking after your pillow

Made well and easy to look after. Here is everything you need to keep yours in good shape.

How to stuff and soften your pillow

The short video below shows how.

Washing

Keeping it fresh.

A gentle wash is all it needs.

Temperature30°C (86°F)
CycleDelicates or wool
PillowcaseAir-dry, don’t tumble
Tumble dryingAdd a tennis ball
Coil fibre

Can stay inside the pillow for washing and tumble drying — add a tennis ball to the drum to keep the loft.

Wool

Must be removed before washing, or it will felt.

Both

Wash at 30°C on a delicates or wool cycle, and dry on low heat.

Pillowcase

Wash at 30°C and air-dry — do not tumble dry. Zip V2 cases fully closed before washing.

Removing and refitting your V2 pillowcase

The short video below shows how to take your V2 pillowcase off for washing and put it back on afterwards.

Filling & firmness

Your filling, your way.

Coil fibre

Our standard filling is coil fibre — a polyester-based material made up of tiny coiled strands that trap air to produce loft and lasting support. The result is a plump pillow with a medium-firm feel, similar in density to feather down, but entirely hypoallergenic and odourless. It is produced in Yorkshire on textile machinery dating back to 1952.

British wool

We also offer British Wool as a natural alternative, sourced from Bronte Glen in Yorkshire. Wool is naturally breathable, temperature-regulating, and a more environmentally responsible choice for those who prefer natural fibres.

Adjusting the firmness

All P.W.A.H® pillows feature a high-quality YKK® zip that lets you add or remove filling to suit your preference. More filling creates a firmer, taller pillow; less creates a softer, lower-profile one. We recommend refreshing the filling periodically to keep your pillow in its best condition. Here’s how:

  1. Unzip carefully, keeping filling away from the zip teeth. Remove all filling into a plastic bag.
  2. Fluff the filling thoroughly inside the bag until it is light and consistent.
  3. Re-stuff with slightly less filling than before, gauging the firmness as you go. Discard the surplus, or keep it in reserve.
  4. Pat the pillow down firmly on a hard surface to distribute the filling evenly.

Washing and drying can naturally fluff the filling, but for a smooth, even result it is always worth going through the steps above afterwards.

End of life

Recycling your P.W.A.H®

Made from carefully chosen natural and recyclable materials, so there are several responsible ways to dispose of it when the time comes. The integrated YKK® zip makes it easy to separate the filling from the outer — which is exactly where to start.

Wool filling

100% natural and fully compostable. Add it directly to a home compost bin or use it as garden mulch. Textile recycling schemes also commonly accept loose wool.

Coil fibre filling

Polyester-based, so not home-compostable, but widely accepted at textile recycling banks. It also works well repurposed as stuffing for a draft excluder, pet bed, or craft project.

Organic cotton outer

100% natural fibre — compostable if clean, or accepted at any textile recycling bank. If the pillow is still in good condition, many charity shops will be glad to receive it.

Textile recycling banks can typically be found in supermarket car parks and at council recycling centres. Many local councils now also offer kerbside textile collection — it’s worth checking your area. For the whole pillow in one go, any clothing or textile bank will accept it.
